Telephone calls are handled by our office staff. If you wish to speak to a doctor or nurse practitioner, it is usually preferable to make an appointment so that the problem can be properly assessed and addressed.
If you feel that there is an urgent medical issue that needs to be discussed, please ask to speak to a nurse who can assist you. Please do not ask for a diagnosis or prescription by phone.
Our telephones are answered 24 hours a day. If you have an urgent medical problem after clinic hours, your call will be answered by a call centre that will route your call to the on-call doctor.
Ontario patients can also call the Telephone Health Answering System at 1-866-553-7205 (TTY 1-866-250-3379) to speak to a nurse.
Quebec patients can call INFO-Sante at 8-1-1 that is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week, for any questions regarding health.
Please use the telephone call service after hours, rather than going to a walk-in clinic, which will not send us a report about the details of your visit. The call service is also better than using the hospital Emergency Rooms, which have long waits and where minor problems divert attention from the true emergencies. Monday through Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings, we hold clinics for our patients for urgent issues. The appointment should be made by contacting our clinic. If you have an emergency, you should not hesitate to call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
