Research Associate II: Data Specialist

The Bruyère Research Institute (Bruyère RI) partners with Bruyère Continuing Care (Bruyère), the University of Ottawa and other stakeholders to conduct relevant and practical health sciences research related to improving the quality of life for the aging population and people requiring continuing care.

About the Position:
 Are you an experienced data analyst with a background in epidemiology or health science looking to join an innovative and highly successful research team? Dr. Clare Liddy and her team oversee a program of research exploring such areas as frailty, improving access to specialists, and equity of care. Her eConsultBASE™ program, co-founded in 2010 in the Ottawa region, has completed nearly 100,000 cases to date, expanded province-wide, and been replicated in other jurisdictions across Canada. Through this proven innovation, tens of thousands of patients have avoided waiting months or years for specialist appointments. As the service continues to grow, we are seeking a motivated individual who is eager to join the team and lend their talents and passion to this important work.

 

 
Main duties and responsibilities:
 
Data Collection & Analysis - 40%
  • Collaborate with Investigator to develop appropriate data analysis plans that meet study objectives while adhering to protocols outlined by affiliated research ethics boards
  • Develop and oversee data collection methodologies, protocols, systems, and techniques
  • Analyze and evaluate quantitative data with minimal oversight
Grants & Publications - 30%
  • Contribute to the writing of manuscripts for publication, with a focus on describing methods and results using clear, concise language.
  • Routinely present research findings to a variety of lay and scientific audiences, at conferences/symposia on behalf of the Investigator
  • Draft abstracts for submission with minimal support of Investigator
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals alongside research team

 Other Research Support - 20%
  • Participate in the development and conceptualizations for projects
  • Provide support on the development and implementation of knowledge transfer
Administrative Support - 10%
  • Provide leadership, support and training to staff, graduate and summer students
  • Recommend, implement, and administer methods and procedures to enhance operations of the project

Required Competencies

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Epidemiology or related Health Science field
  • Advanced experience with quantitative data analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of research methodologies and study design
  • Experience working with large datasets
  • Knowledge of data analysis software (e.g. SPSS, SAS)
  • Strong communication skills, with an ability to clearly articulate abstract concepts to a diverse audience verbally and through writing.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage overlapping project phases and meet deadlines with attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, including the ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment

Preferred Competencies

  • Experience with qualitative data analysis
  • Bilingual French and English
