The Bruyère Research Institute partners with Bruyère, the University of Ottawa and other stakeholders to conduct relevant and practical health sciences research related to medical education and improving the quality of life for the aging population and people requiring continuing care.


Function Summary

The Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care (CLRI) build capacity through innovation and collaboration in education, research, and knowledge mobilization. The Program’s goal is to support long-term care (LTC) homes to improve the quality of life and care for residents through building capacity and promoting innovative best practices. The Ontario CLRI works with a range of individuals and organizations in partnership, to support research, develop innovative education, and share resources with LTC homes. We engage with people connected with the LTC sector.

The Ontario CLRI is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care and is hosted by Baycrest Health Sciences, Bruyère, and Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging.

The Senior Knowledge Broker at the Ontario Centers for Learning, Research and Innovation (CLRI) at Bruyère will be responsible for developing, implementing and supporting knowledge mobilization activities and for co-developing and delivering learning opportunities that build on research and evidence-based innovations. These knowledge mobilization and learning opportunities will support sustainable practice change, will be learner-centered and will be tailored to meet the needs of those working in long-term care.

This role will lead the development of new projects and initiatives in collaboration with the CLRI Director and team. The responsibilities will include:
  1. Communicating and coordinating in a substantial independent way with a variety of project partners, including long-term care homes, content experts, eLearning designers and other technical contributors, and the Ontario CLRI teams at Baycrest and Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA)
  2. Leading project work independently
  3. Delegating and supervising project work for other staff
  4. Recommending, designing, and implementing new initiatives in alignment with Ontario CLRI strategic priorities as approved by program director
  5. Leading initiatives that support program change and quality improvement in long term care (LTC) homes and externally partnered programs
  6. Synthetizing and disseminating information to different audiences
  7. Connecting proactively with the different users of CLRI tools and training to support their learning and practice change


Main duties and responsibilities

  • Working with the Ontario CLRI at Bruyère team to ensure a timely development and implementation of project and program deliverables
  • Leading the development and implementation of projects and initiatives
  • Delegating and supervising project work of junior team members and students
  • Creating and overseeing logistics for projects, including plans for data collection and analysis, financial planning and tracking, facilitating meetings, establishing project schedules, timelines, milestones, contracts and resources
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating knowledge translation and transfer activities to advance CLRI program goals, particularly around learning tools and opportunities and for change management
  • Coordinating with other Ontario CLRI teams at Baycrest and Schlegel-UW RIA and contributing expertise to joint planning and activities
  • Corresponding with external partners, investigators and individuals with lived experience
  • Leading initiatives that support program change and quality improvement in LTC homes and externally partnered programs
  • Working with the Ontario CLRI at Bruyère team to ensure a timely drafting and submission of reporting, publications, presentations and grants
  • Additional duties may be added as projects progress


Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Master’s degree in relevant fields or a combination of a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience in areas such as health, long-term care, implementation research and practice, (adult) education, innovation support, change management, knowledge translation and equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Significant experience in training, including experience with techniques and methodologies of training needs assessment, program design (curriculum, learning activities, resources, strategies, plans and processes using various learning delivery models including online, blended, hybrid and classroom formats), in-person and virtual delivery and evaluation, and demonstrated application of adult learning principles
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in project coordination experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in project management in Ontario healthcare setting
  • Proficient understanding and application of equity, diversity and inclusion frameworks and how these can be used to positively impact staff, residents and family members in LTC
  • Experience maintaining, developing and implementing programs that support equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment and with multiple internal and external partners
  • Experience partnering with individuals and communities that have been marginalized and under-serviced by the healthcare system
  • Exceptional communication skills, including written and verbal in English
  • Good risk assessment and conflict resolution skills with understanding of when to escalate issues to other team members
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage overlapping project phases and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, including the ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment
  • Demonstrated progressive experience leading projects


Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

  • Experience working and/or education and professional development in the long-term care environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key thematics of the Ontario CLRI at Bruyère, including a palliative approach and end-of-life care, EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion), leadership and change management, integrating eLearning/virtual learning
  • Demonstrated ability to produce quality documentation and develop and design training materials for online courses, sessions, programs in accordance with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards
  • Fluent in French and English
