Salary Scale:

$32.84 - $46.92/hr, plus a competitive benefits program

Function Summary

 

Under the direction and leadership of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Manager, the IPC Nurse contributes to the provision of quality care in a safe environment for the patients/residents and staff by participating in multiple aspects of the IPC program.

Responsibilities of the IPC nurse include:

 

  • Participating in the planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of the Hospital wide infection prevention and control program
  • Implementing prevention strategies including education/consultation for staff, physicians and hospital departments
  • Performing surveillance and data analysis
  • Identifying trends/patterns and managing investigations of infections
  • Maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements

Required Qualifications

    • Certification of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario
    • Minimum of five (5) years experience in a clinical health setting, including two full time equivalent years in Infection Prevention & Control or five years of experience in a clinical health care setting and a minimum of 80 hours of IPAC Canada-endorsed infection prevention & control courses
    • Certification in Infection Prevention & Control (CIC) - required within five (5) years of hire and certification to be maintained
    • Fluent in French and English (verbal, written and read)
    • Advanced medical terminology
    • Intermediate computer skills (e.g. Word, Excel)
    • Experience and/or training in Principles of adult education is an asset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional courses in epidemiology, microbiology, infectious deseases and statistics 
  • Member of IPAC Canada

    • Knowledgeable in current regulations and recommendations for infection prevention and control issues.
    • Demonstrates skills as it relates to infection prevention and control in epidemiology (including outbreak management), infectious diseases, microbiology, patient care practices, risk management, safety and occupational health.
