LOCATION: CHAMP Office located at 2625 Queensview Dr., Ottawa, ON

 

KEY FUNCTION:

The Communication Specialist uses targeted communications to support CHAMP’s (Champlain Association of Meditech Partners) upgrade and implementation of its advanced electronic health record across six hospitals and many user groups. The Communications Specialist is a key influencer for helping managers and users like nurses, allied health professionals and physicians understand the what, why, when, and how of these changes and the implementation to CHAMP’s electronic health record system (Meditech) across the six sites located in the National Capital Region.

Dynamic and self-motivated with a flair for supporting large teams to understand and work through change; the ideal individual is comfortable working remotely and across multiple sites, is confident supporting multiple senior leaders and engaging front line staff. The Communications Specialist has a natural curiosity and creativity to effectively tell the story of the implementation of a large-scale health information system implementation to a broad audience, including staff, physicians, allied health and non-clinical staff, in addition to promoting the project and milestones to media and external audiences. CHAMP is comprised of six hospitals within the Champlain LHIN: Glengarry, Montfort, Bruyére, Queensway Carleton, Carleton Place and Arnprior who share a common health information system through Meditech.
 

REPORTING:

As a member of the project team the Communications Specialist works under the direction of the CHAMP 6.1 Project Manager and the Director of IS/IT CHAMP and will work with the CHAMP communications committee for direction on communications process, content, and decisions.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supporting a committee of communications leads of each CHAMP site, the successful candidate will partner with CHAMP leadership, communications leads at each of the sites, and Clinical Informatics project teams to develop a comprehensive communication strategy and execution plan for the implementation of the new health information system.
  • Develop meaningful and accessible communication content that drives awareness, understanding, readiness and adoption of the new system by the users (i.e. nurses, allied health professionals, physicians)
  • Support executive level presentations and communication deliverables
  • Support standardized training and educational material
  • Maintain partnerships with program leaders and help drive content development for webcasts, manager briefings, front line staff engagement, etc.
  • Drive end user communications including but not limited to key messaging, deployment and training
    announcements, go live support needs, and ad-hoc requests.
  • Drive and maintain engagement throughout the CHAMP network by being present at the six sites
    regularly to help brand the initiative and provide on-site communications support and drive the sharing
    of information across the more than 100 person project team.
  • Drive thought leadership and innovation – think of new and creative ways that CHAMP can engage
    and communicate to key stakeholders, including media.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, business, public relations, journalism and/or change management.
  • Minimum of three years of experience supporting large-scale transformational programs across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Minimum of three years of experience in corporate communications, change management, program and / or project management, marketing communications and/or public relations
  • Exceptional communication skills with knowledge and experience across multiple platforms (i.e., print, social media, visual media, online, etc.), with a demonstrated ability to drive employee engagement.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to build and manage stakeholder relationships across many diverse stakeholder groups including clinicians and front line staff.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work remotely, across multiple sites in a matrixed reporting structure.
  • Knowledge of Change Management methodologies and frameworks and/or demonstrated ability to support change management in large organizations is a significant asset
  • Strong project management skills, including an understanding and working knowledge of project management tools and methodologies is an asset
  • Knowledge of the health care system and health information systems would be an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, French will be considered an asset.
