BRUYÈRE HEALTH CHAIR IN PRIMARY HEALTH CARE FAMILY MEDICINE RESEARCH

The Bruyère Health Research Institute, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa invite nominations and applications from family physician-scientists interested in a 5-year contract with the possibility of extension. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, equivalent to Tier 2 at the University of Ottawa.
As a respected clinician scholar, you are successfully addressing the challenges in primary health care that face today’s society. Your area of expertise is related to social accountability, aging, or long-term care. You are an early career researcher with demonstrated strengths in research that directly improve the health of the community served through an emphasis on partnerships, equity, and social relevance. The DFM’s mandate (please refer to the 2021-2026 Strategic Plan) and approach are multi-dimensional, responsive, and committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and research excellence. Furthermore, social accountability, aging, and long-term care are among the research pillars of the Bruyère Health Research Institute.
In addition to clinical training, you have formal training and/or expertise in a health research-related discipline including medical education, community engagement research, clinical research, health policy or public health research. You have demonstrated strengths in areas that may broadly include but are not limited to addressing the current and future health needs and challenges of society, such as:
- Research focused on the integration and coordination of health and social care systems at the population level.
- Clinical, health services, or policy research focused on excellence in Family Medicine.
- Medical education research, including innovations to enhance health human resources among underserved populations and in underserved settings.
- Development of innovative methods and strategies to effectively conduct and measure stakeholder and community engagement.
- Evaluation and accreditation strategies to assess family medicine performance and impact.
The successful candidate will become an integral part of a dynamic, collaborative, and interconnected research environment at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine, and the Bruyère Health Research Institute. As Chair, you will also directly contribute to the capacity building of social accountability, aging, or long-term care across all three organizations and engage in extending the Family Medicine department’s core strengths and Bruyère Health’s mission.
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold, or be eligible to hold, a scientific appointment at the Bruyère Health Research Institute and an academic appointment at the Department of Family Medicine, University of Ottawa.
- Hold, or be eligible to hold, a licence to practice comprehensive family medicine with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
- Expected to practice clinically as a comprehensive family physician with the Bruyère Health Academic Family Health Medicine team.
- Hold funding from recognized peer review organizations (e.g. NIH, CIHR, SSHRC) with superior research achievements in the identified area(s) and proof of interdisciplinary collaborations, a solid record for teaching and training of students at the graduate/postdoctoral/residency level, the ability to obtain research funds, excellent communication skills with French-English bilingualism an asset, and exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills, and a strong team player.

Holders of Canada Research Chairs, or endowed Chairs of similar stature and value, may not concurrently hold this Research Chair award.
