Laboratory and Phlebotomy Facilities

Collection and handling of blood/urine/saliva samples - BRI offers a fully-equipped phlebotomy and blood processing/storage laboratory located at the Elisabeth Bruyère Hospital.

Additional procedures such as Complete Blood Counts (CBC), serum/plasma separation, buffy coat, platelets poor plasma (PPP), peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC), the collection of live cells and the preparation of Gen-Plates are also available.  


All services around sample preparation for shipment within provincial, national and international borders is provided by staff experienced in shipping samples using nitrogen containment carriers and working with central laboratories.


Functioning within a framework of established Standard Operating Policies (SOPs) and Health Canada guidelines, the BRI laboratory is staffed by certified Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLAs) with years of experience in venipuncture and
clinical research. Staff have training in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Laboratory Management System (LIMS) and are certified annually in laboratory SOPs.
