Resident and family surveys 

Like every summer, we conducted a resident satisfaction survey. At both residences, we reached nearly 70 residents! The results will be presented at the Residents’ Council meetings in September in our two homes.

The Family Satisfaction Survey is also underway. For each resident, the primary contact should have received the paper survey. The survey can also be completed online. Families have until September 30 to complete the survey. The feedback they provide will allow us to focus our efforts on the suggested improvements. 

SPARK 

A huge thank you goes out to residents, families, and staff for supporting the Ontario CLRI and Remotronic Inc. in running the falls detection research initiative. Over the months of May and June, a smart-phone camera system was installed in five resident rooms at Saint-Louis Residence. Resulted showed that while the technology is a great idea in theory, there were many false alarms and no actual falls happened in the detection range of the camera. Although the results are not as promising as desired, they provided valuable insight that further testing is needed.

The bazaar has a new showroom! The room is located at A-150 at the Saint-Louis Residence. In this room, you will find large items, such as furniture. You will also find a range of articles on Kijiji!

The next bazaar will take place on November 7, 8 and 9.
It is important to note that every dollar raised by the bazaar volunteers goes directly to the residents of Saint-Louis Residence!

New OT services

Residents have the opportunity to benefit from occupational therapy services! Occupational therapists play an important role in improving the quality of care and the quality of life of our residents. In particular, they perform assessments of positioning and functional abilities related to mobility devices. Did you know, however, that mechanical repairs to residents’ mobility devices are the family’s responsibility? Our clinical team is available to support residents and their families with any request related to wheelchairs, mobility devices, etc.

Reclaiming our Humanity

Want to find out more about volunteering and the Japanese culture? Come join us on September 12, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., in the Gilberte-Paquette Garden for our event called Reclaiming our Humanity. Learning passport   

The clinical staff members now have a learning passport as a guide to their mandatory education throughout the year!
From now until December 2018, they will do online modules.

All clinical staff members must do the following mandatory online modules:

•  Emergency codes (June)
• Continence quiz (June) 
• Module 4 LTC — Restraints (July)
• Module 8 LTC — Safe work practices (August)
• Module 3 LTC – Preventing abuse and neglect (September)

Know your menu 

Did you know that we must offer residents at least two choices at every meal and snack? When residents are asked if they want meat lasagna or chicken cordon bleu with carrots, we not only provide quality service to residents and promote their independence, but we also follow the Long-Term Care Home Act. Thank you to all employees who have made tremendous efforts to optimize meal services. By knowing the menu, offering choices including dessert, beverages and snacks and following the kardex, they play an important role in offering the best services possible to the residents!

Public writer service 

The Therapeutic Support Services team is offering a new activity: a public writer service for the residents of the Élisabeth Bruyère Residence. With the help of a volunteer with writing experience, residents will be able to write letters to their loved ones, write their own story, birthday cards, etc. For more details, contact Kim Durst-Mackenzie at extension 2568.

Safety fair

The safety fair is coming soon. This year, this event will take place on November 3 at Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital. We encourage staff to come and learn more about safety at Bruyère and to share their knowledge with colleagues. It’s also a great opportunity to get vaccinated against the flu!

Saint-Louis Residence   

Inspectors from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care were recently at the residence for their annual resident care and services quality inspection. They acknowledged all the improvements since their last visit. They also pointed out that the initiatives put in place since their last visit has been supported.

We have some areas to improve, but we are very proud of the employees who work with perseverance to make Saint-Louis Residence an even better place to live and work!

Lost and found days 
We are organizing the next Lost and Found Items Day on Saturday, September 15, between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Found items will be displayed in the foyer. We encourage residents and family members to come and try to recover items they may have lost. The remaining items will probably be donated.

Fall education days 

Education days will begin soon for all employees of the clinical sectors! This is the third year that we host these sessions for employees. They appreciate the opportunity to meet, update and share their knowledge.
These mandatory days will include, for example, suicide prevention, the Teepa Snow approach, falls prevention and residents’ rights. These training sessions allow us to reach more than 200 employees at the Residence. Some mandatory subjects are also taught to non-clinical staff.

3AB living room

Have you noticed the revamped living room on 3AB? These improvements were made possible thanks to a generous donation! Residents chose a few names for this common area. You will soon be able to vote for your favourite name !
