Specialized Services & Clinics

Located on the main level of the Centretown Site in hallway/wing C, Specialized Services provides access to professional health care consultants for the Bruyère Health in-patient population. These professional services are arranged once identified by the treatment team at the unit level.

Referral Process:

The patient must be an in-patient at Bruyère Health, at our Centretown and Market locations.

Once a need has been identified by the treatment team and the attending physician at the unit level, an order and a consultation referral are written and faxed to the SSC team. The original consultation form is kept in the “Consultations” section of the paper health record until its use by the consultant in SSC. There is no need to send the original by internal mail.

Priority Triage is done by the SSC nurse prior to scheduling the appointment.

Some consultants may require insurance information, payment, or proof of payment before the consultation can take place. The SSC team will contact the patient or family, caregiver, or substitute decision maker (SDM) upon receipt of a referral to provide these details and to gather the required information.

The appointment will be confirmed by the SSC clerk. The details will be emailed to the unit clerk who will then enter the info in the electronic medical record of the patient.

Once the patient has been seen by the consultant, all necessary charting and documentation is done by the SSC team, and the ward clerk completes the appointment in the electronic medical record of the patient.

Cost & payment:

Most of our services are covered by OHIP.

However, Audiology, Dentistry, Denturology and Optometry service are typically not covered under OHIP. Fees for these services may apply, but they may be covered by private insurance or a third party. Our SSC team will contact the patient or family/caregiver, or SDM, to arrange a preferred method of payment (insurance, credit card, e-transfer, or cash). Once payment is confirmed, the appointment will be scheduled.
